Poison Control

1.17.2024

Poisoning is a big risk factor especially for toddlers and preschoolers. Toddlers are especially at risk due to the fact that everything goes in their mouths as they explore their world. When they start crawling they can find items that are inadvertently left in their reach (grandma's purse with her medication, cleaning supplies, etc). Locks on cabinets, keeping cleaning supplies on high shelves or in locked closets can help preventan ingestion. Never store cleaning fluids, motor oil, etc, in containers that look like food (such as soda cans or bottles, old juice containers, etc). If an ingestion does occur contact poison coltrrol for advice on how to manage the situation. Bring the container/substance ingested with you to the phone so that you can inform the person at poison control about the substance. They will guide you about how to manage the ingestion and whether to seek emergency medical care. keep the number for poison control on your cell phone or posted by your home phone so you will not need to take the time to look for it in an emergency.
