Flu Vaccine - in our office and the local health district office

9.1.2023

We now have appointments available for flu vaccine administration.  Please call!

As you know, the flu can be uncomfortable – but also deadly. Influenza illness is no fun for anyone, but it can be especially dangerous for certain groups, such as infants and young children, people with asthma, diabetes or heart problems and certain other chronic health problems. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises that all children and adolescents be immunized against the flu.

This year, again, is especially worrisome with COVID-19.  There is a very big concern in the medical community that there may be both the Flu and COVID-19 circulating at the same time.  This may very well present a problem in differentiating the two illnesses, and also in testing and treating these illnesses.  On a grander scale, a surge in one, or both, can easily further strain the healthcare system.  Also, there is concern over co-infection (being infected with both COVID-19 and influenza), and if this could possibly make the course of illness more difficult to manage and treat.

It is strongly recommended to get your flu vaccine in a timely manner.  The flu vaccine is available and you can receive it at your next office appointment.  Also, we have several flu clinic days this Fall and Winter.  Please call the office and schedule an appointment today.

Also, patients preschool age and older year can go to your local pharmacy to obtain a flu vaccine.

To ensure that all patients have access to the flu vaccine we have partnered with the Connecticut River Health Area District (CRAHD).  CRAHD will have a small supply of the FluMist (nasal flu spray) available, but we do not have it in our office.  Starting Wednesday, October 4th, they will have a walk-in appointments every Wednesday from 8am to 6pm.  Please go their website for more information:  CRAHD-Flu

Many local pharmacies will offer the flu vaccine from 3 years of age and up.  Please call, or go the website, of your local pharmacies for details.

Be wise and immunize!
