Wildwood's Janice Cole reaches an impressive milestone

6.1.2016

This past May Janice Cole, RN, IBCLC, reached a milestone in pediatric nursing that is very hard to come by.  She has been a practicing nurse, and leader, in the field for over 50 years!  This amazing accomplishment was recognized by the entire staff at a recent office luncheon meeting, and she received a special gift from all of us at Wildwood Pediatrics.

Janice began her career in 1966 after graduating with her Registered Nurse degree from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing.  In that same year she joined pediatrician Dr. Bill Irving in Old Saybrook and became his 'right hand' nurse (and dear friend) for thirty years.  The two of them formed a very well respected team known for their high quality and compassionate pediatric care in Old Saybrook and along the shoreline.  When Dr. Irving retired in 1996, we felt honored that Janice accepted our invitation to join the Wildwood team.  Over the last twenty years, Janice has been one of the most integral cogs in the wheel for our office, performing all aspects of nursing care.  Never to rest on her accomplishments, Janice decided to formalize her love for helping and assisting nursing mothers, and to that end she received her International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) degree in 2003.  So it is easy to see that she has worn all of Wildwood Pediatrics' hats, from staff nurse, to nurse manager, to senior lactation consultant (and everything in between)!

As many patients and families know,  Janice's caring ways and expert practice of pediatric nursing does not come soley from her experience and knowledge, but equally from her heart.  She has touched so many families in so many different ways.  This dedication was further recognized, by nursing colleagues in the State of Connecticut, when she was awarded the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing in 2012.

On a personal note, Janice has been, and continues to be, an integral part of the Old Saybrook community as well.  Janice and her husband, David, raised four children in Old Saybrook, and are the proud grandparents of eight beautiful grandchildren.  When Janice is away from work she enjoys her most favorite pastime, her family.

Please join us on congratulating, and thanking, Janice for her fifty years dedication and expertise in the field of pediatric nursing care, and for touching the lives of generations of families in our communities.
