Lab Work
If laboratory work has been advised for you a requisition form will be provided. You may take it to any lab that participates with your insurance carrier. You will need to present your insurance card to the lab.
Most commonly, patients use QUEST Labs, Middlesex Hospital Lab (Shoreline or Middletown), L&M's Medical Office lab (Old Saybrook) or Yale's Shoreline Medical Center lab (Guilford), all of which participate with most insurance carriers. Addresses and phone numbers for these labs can be found below. EXCEPTION: Patients with UnitedHealthcare may not use Quest, as UnitedHealthcare does not participate with QUEST or cover tests done there.
When to Expect Results
Please note that, even though a lab tech tells you that results will be available quickly (in a day), they are not!
It usually takes 5-7 days (or more) for us to receive results for all of the tests ordered!
We do review preliminary, partial results as they are sent to us on an ongoing basis, each and every day. If any of these require action, we will notify you as soon as we get them. Having an up-to-date phone number or cell phone number is crucial in these cases.
Otherwise, we notify patients of results when all of their lab studies are available, and have been reviewed by the ordering physician/PNP. As noted above, this is often a week or more. You will be notified (via mail or phone) of all lab/x-ray results.
Please also note that final reports of special tests ordered by Wildwood Pediatrics (EEG, EKG, sleep studies, bone age, etc.), can take even longer. But again, we will notify you when the ordering physician or nurse practitioner has received and reviewed the results. (If another physician has ordered tests, they will be the ones to report to you).
