Sleep Tips

Sleep is a common topic discussed at many pediatric visits.  There can be many different apporaches to ensuring that your child gets a good nights rest.  If there are concerns regarding your child's sleeping please call the office to make an appointment to discuss any issues.

 

Below are a few highlights offered by Boston Children's Sleep Center.  More detailed information can be found on their website at bostonchildrens.org/sleep.

 

Tips for families of young children

 

   - Keep your child on a regular schedule starting at 3 months of age

   - Always place your baby on his or her back

   - Do not put your child to sleep with a bottle

   - Follow a regular bedtime routine

   - Have a "screen-free" bedroom

 

Sleep tips for families of teenagers

 

   - Use the bed only for sleep to promote a quiet place that promotes relaxation

   - Encourage your teenager to go sleep and to wake at regular times

   - Encourage your teenager to get regular exercise (but not just before bed)

   - Avoid heavy meals a few hours before bed

   - Turn off electronic devices and consider keeping them out of your teens bedroom
